Our America ~ Dir. Dean M. Winkler & Donald S. Butler ~ New York, United States ~ 2021 ~ 4:07
"Our America" is a short-form, non-narrative meditation on American 20th century industrial promises gone awry. The film explores the dreams of World War II America through imagery based on 1943 teacher aid posters called Our America which were distributed to schools throughout the U.S. From the vantage point of nearly a century later, the film examines how the innocent, celebratory intent of American ingenuity has led us on a path of unintended consequences. "Our America" follows "140 Characters" (2017), a short non-narrative film about the unfulfilled promises of internet technology. |

Press Pound to Connect ~ Dir. Alexander Fingrutd ~ United States ~ 2019 ~ 2:31
This film was hand processed, shot on 16mm film, and created using a masking technique and appropriated images. The nine equal parts reference the Pound Symbol on a telephone keypad. Here, it is used as a symbol for connection. We are connected to more than what is immediately around ourselves: to each other, the planet, and the farthest galaxies. What distant things are having an effect on us and what are we non-visibly affecting? The similarities between these connections are represented through overlapping images. It shows a change in perspective, going from the individual singular self, to a view where there is no divide between self and other. It brings us to a cosmic, all-encompassing view, divided in space and tied together through telephone wire. |

Baby Paradise TV ~ Anna Valeska Pohl ~ Regensburg, Germany ~ 2021 ~ 12:24
"Baby Paradise TV" is a hyper-reality show format portraying the daily life of a cam girl in a "Barbie-Land-gone-wrong". The protagonist, Baby Paradise, is a Cyborg Barbie who entertains the "daddies" in front of the screen with wicked doll games. XXX episodes named after her favorite dolls present grotesque dollhouse nightmares: from the Lolita fantasy in "Ginger" to the saint/whore scenario in "Angel". A Ken doll, named Hades, is the antagonist. Traumatic 'daddy actions' in candy colors are contrasted with blurred doll cam footage. This anti-porn is inspired by performance artist Anna Valeska Pohl's former relationship with a sex worker. "Baby Paradise TV" is the second part of Pohl's "Baby Paradise trilogy" that plays with trauma and taboo. Baby Paradise TV - Trailer from bambule.babys on Vimeo. |
